We've probably all heard the joke about the captain who sees a light on a pitch black night that is on a collision course with his ship.
He sends a signal: "Change your course ten degrees east."
"Change yours ten degrees west," comes the reply.
The captain responds, "I'm a United States Navy captain! Change your course, sir!"
"I'm a seaman second class," the next message reads. "Change your course, sir."
The captain is furious. "I'm a battleship! I'm not changing course!"
"I'm a lighthouse," is the replie.
The joke, printed in the September 2003 issue of Reader's Digest, shows that even a battleship might need boat repair.
Using our Quick Search feature, you can find a reliable boat repair shop in the vicinity of your home or the marina where you keep your boat.
There is no need to remind you that your boat, besides being your pride and joy, is also an expensive item that needs careful maintenance and care.
Parts for boats are expensive, especially when compared to auto parts. All the more good reason to take good care and avoid unnecessary boat repair.
Here is a safety check-list to go over before you set out for a sail:
Check the weather forecast. Do you have all the maps and charts that you need? Make sure there are enough personal flotation devices of appropriate size for everyone on board. Keep your safety equipment and VHF radio in good working order. Let someone know where you're going, when to expect you back and what your boat looks like. Make sure you have enough fuel.
Happy sailing.
